THE
BUSINESS
The
idea behind Orce Serrano Hams has now been realised with
many happy customers but how exactly did it come about?
On
our viewing visit to the area we sampled a taste of hams
produced in the local villages as well as other cured meats.
To be sure of going ahead with our life changing re-location
we had to be sure of the primary things that were important
to us. One of these important factors was and is food. We
had heard about the famous Serrano Ham previously but had
never sampled the real thing, when we did, almost immediately
Orce Serrano was born. Friends and family came to visit
and the results of our Serrano ham tapas spoke volumes,
everyone loved it.

We
were in a unique location with rural Andalucia on the doorstep
along with her many fine artisan foods so we decided to
give lovers of Mediterranean food the opportunity to enjoy
this in their own homes. The town Mayor and local bank manager
recognised the Orce Serrano vision and assisted in the set
up of the business. Also local suppliers have accommodated
Orce Serrano and have proved to be a valuable source of
information. The backing of the Junta de Andalucia
(Andalucian government) was obtained in January 2006 so
with Orce Serrano fully registered we were ready.

business run by two Brits, Iain Macdonald and Gayle
Hartley, based in Andalucia. We tried their Orce Fire
Chorizo which certainly lives up to its name with
an intense fiery heat (but milder ones are available).
Great with a cold beer but even better added to dishes
like roast chicken (push slices under the skin before
